Request Info on "Carcinoma in-situ" & Neophedan"
Question:
I was diagnosed with Lobular Carcinoma in Situ and my follow-up is annual mammograms, semi-annual breast exams by the doctor and monthly self-exams. I have been told I have a 25% chance of getting breast cancer sometime in my life because of the diagnosis. I am 43. It scares me to just "sit back and wait", but I guess that’s what it’s all about. Response:
Hi there from South Africa, I was recently diagnosed with the above breast cancer … or so say the pathology results from a wedge incision recently performed. Well needless to say, I was devastated. According to the surgeon, I was to have radium treatment daily for 6 weeks to attempt arresting a possible ‘Mirror Imaging’, which is what this type of cancer is renowned to do. But a recent consultation with the Oncologist resulted in completely different prognosis. According to him, this is a very rare condition, and is a contained type. And the surgery had removed all the offending cells (2nd surgery results were that the margins were clean although some cells were malignant). He has told me therefore that I don’t have cancer and that radium is therefore not necessary. His prognosis is that I must obviously stop HRT and has put me onto 20mg of Neophedan daily. – Can anyone kindly give me some more info on this type of cancer. and – Neophedan …… are there any possible side-effects or what is this about? I would be most grateful for any feedback …. Daphne Holtzhausen Johannesburg-South Africa
