Melotonin – Cutting capsules in half
Question:
I have been using a capsule form of Melotonin for a few weeks now , 3 mg caps. I found that half that works fine, the only problem is it’s tough to save the other half of the capsule after I cut the 3 mg one in half. Any ideas on a good way to do this? Will look for a lower dosage tablet/cap, but would not like to waste half of what I have in the meantime. The 3 mg dose is a bit much for me, it works, but really zonks me out. I’m sure I’ll get flamed all to hell and chastised for being such an evil low life commercialistic heathen for responding to your post, but perhaps if I flagellate myself in advance it will assuage some of the more hemmorhoid ridden losers on here ;- In any case, our Office Manager here used to cut a 3mg melatonin capsule in half because if she didn’t do this she’d be too zonked out the next day. We also heard from several others who couldn’t take 3mg, so we began formulating a 1mg melatonin capsule. Now, I’ve ALREADY gone WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY over de line of acceptable Usenet protocol in telling you this, and I’m CERTAIN that some SHMUCKS on here will complain bitterly ;<) but you can actually PURCHASE this stuff from us for a certain quantity of FRNS, and to find out how MUCH as well as to get an entire EVIL, HEATHINISTIC COMMERCIAL CATALOG, send email to our main office providing your street address, or call our main office at (Sorry all you anti commercial people, but I’m trying to help this guy) 800-841-LIFE. There now. I don’t get any commission for this, even if you buy it. And I really don’t give a if anyone buys from us or not. Hell, VRP and a million others also sell this stuff, and I don’t give two shit where it GETS bought, long as people are out thar USIN’ the stuff and pissin’ off the FDA in the process! So I tell ya’ll what: Anyone who doesn’t like this post can ES AND D. Do I need to spell that out for ya in Anglo Saxon? I have recently purchased Melotonin and have not started using it. Do you take it to sleep only? I have been reading a lot about the other perceived benefits of this drug. I would really be interested in what you have to say about Melotonin. I feel that since you are using it, you would be a good judge of its effects. In most cases, if something sounds too good to be true it usually is. To answer your question, my Melotonin is in small, white tablet form. I would imagine that cutting these in half would be a lot easier.

Melatonin helps prevent breast cancer, and osteoporosis. One new study confirms the direct role melatonin plays in inhibiting the division of estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells. It is useful when jet traveling across time zones because it resets the circadian rhythms (your body’s 24 hour internal time clock)helping you to avoid jet lag. When I travel by plane, I pop a 3mg melatonin once in my seat and use a black blinder over my eyes to shut out light so I can sleep. This works really well. On a recent transcontinental flight from San Francisco to Ft.Lauderdale, I wasn’t wiped out by jet lag like I was before I started using melatonin. I used to always feel brain fogged for a couple days after flying from west to east, but now, jet travel is much easier. Unless you have cancer, melatonin is generally taken before you go to sleep. I definitly wouldn’t recommend that you take it before getting behind the wheel of a car, or if you plan on operating a band saw! I won’t quote prices here, but our non profit, educational Foundation sells it in 1mg, 3mg, and 10mg capsules. The vast majority of people do well with 3mg-6mg/night, but for some even 3mg is too much so we began manufacturing a 1 mg capsule, and that is all some people need. Because there are a few people who require far more of the substance than others, we also manufacture a 10 mg product, which is also used by cancer patients. We have information about melatonin in our web page, and also send literature to people. Feel free to download information off our web page, and if you’d like an article or two sent to you, please leave your street address. — John Hammell, Political Coordinator, The Life Extension Foundation 800-333-2553, 305-929-2905, 305-929-0507 FAX **For Complimentary Copy Life Extension Magazine-Send Street Address**

Most people, including myself, take three to six milligrams at bedtime. It is a good sleep aid, but it has many other benefits including what you have hopefully read about. Since the tablets come in thre= e milligrams, why would you want to cut them in half? Richard

People respond differently to different drugs and to different dosages of the same substance. It’s not ‘all over town’ in most cases, but it’s easy to imagine a subset of the melatonin groupies who, because of poor renal function, for example, would attain a higher plasma melatonin concentration with less drug. In any case, what would be the matter with titrating up slowly so that you could take the smallest amount necessary to get the desired effect, and with the least side-effect? Or, find a compounding pharmacist to make you up some .5, .75, or 1mg capsules if the 1.5’s zonk you out. The right dosage for the right person donchaknow. JB.

I had the same problem with 3 mg. melatonin, I was groggy the whole next day. My doctor suggested putting half a capsule’s worth in some applesauce. What I did with the other half was: I saved a small plastic cup (like the kind frozen Italian ices come in, or Crystal Light) and poured it in there for the next day.
